Peaceful May Day

May 1 was neither a day of protestations or demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles. If not for the street closures in the area, you wouldn’t think twice that anything was happening. Traffic detours abounded, but it didn’t seem like anything unusual in L.A. Clogged streets and traffic jams are part of every Angeleno’s existence.
A year ago today a similar scene played out in L.A., but with different consequences. A melee between police officers and reporters and marchers in MacArthur Park disrupted events and chaos erupted. Fear of a similar episode this year made for a rather staid and calm May Day march.
